LiverMetSurvey
Join us…!
Dear colleague,
Despite the hope generated by the increasing efficacy of oncological treatments of hepatic metastases, many questions are still pending.
Most of the currently available data in this setting are derived from retrospective studies, and thus are unable to answer definitively to many questions. How, on this basis, can we share best practice? How can we optimize the patient outcome? …
LiverMetSurvey, the first international registry of patients undergoing surgery for hepatic metastases from colorectal cancer, has been created to overcome the limits of these studies, to optimize patient care and to develop scientifically based recommendations.
This ambitious, large-scale project has been developed under the aegis of a European Expert Committee.
We need the participation of the largest number of centers and your participation is welcome.
Yours sincerely,
Professor René Adam
Founded by Prof. René Adam in 2005 and sponsored since October 2017 by the A.R.C.A.D Foundation – Aide et Recherche en CAncérologie Digestive – LMS Program is a prospective international database with more than 60 participating countries.
The LiverMetSurvey program gathers data from patients operated for colorectal liver metastasis, whether resected or not. The data includes patient history, treatments (chemotherapy, surgery, combined ablation) and operated patients’ outcomes.
300 centers in 55 countries actively participate in this registry. They included data from more than 34,000 patients and more than 40,000 operations.
LiverMetSurvey is the first international registry of patients operated on for liver metastases from colorectal cancer. The database constitutes a valuable tool for improving care pathways for patients with colorectal liver metastases.
The program includes an international scientific committee made up of surgeons and oncologists.
The A.R.CA.D LiverMetSurvey program is opened to all centers across the world, whether private or public. Investigators are requested to include all their operated patients consecutively and to provide their follow-up on a long-term basis.
Objectives
- To collect, on a large scale, the critical information concerning the history of patients surgically treated for colorectal liver metastases.
- To prospectively evaluate the outcome after surgery and chemotherapy.
- To analyse survival data in relation to pertinent prognostic factors.
- To provide information on pending questions regarding indications, type of surgery, adjuvant treatment and the role of chemotherapy
Inclusion criteria
Patients who underwent surgery for resection of hepatic metastasis of colorectal origin, whether the hepatectomy was performed or cancelled during the operation. Surgery means an hepatectomy, a liver transplantation, or a local ablation without hepatectomy.
LiverMetSurvey Services for contributing centers
- An individualized, auto-administered, confidential, and secured database for each contributing center:
- Individual: the principal investigator and co-investigators are assigned personal passwords.
- Auto-administered: administration of the database is performed by the LiverMetSurvey data-manager.
- Confidential: the principal investigator and co-investigators have complete access to data collected at their own centre, but no access to data from other registered centres
- Secure: the LiverMetSurvey registry is secured using SSL protection.
- Complex statistical analysis of the database for each center available every 6 months (e.g. overall survival, prognostic factors)
- Export of own data via Excel at any time.
- Booklet summarizing the analysis of the international data, available every 6 months: please find here the latest updating semestrial booklet.
- Option of special statistical analysis requests on specific scientific topics, with the agreement of the expert committee.
- Involvement in publications, presentations at a global level.

The LIVERMETSURVEY program run by A.R.CA.D Foundation has been supported since early 2018 by Susana, Dominique and Joseph-André METTEN. Susana was diagnosed with cancer that spread to liver; her final wish was to contribute to cancer research and increase the chances of remission, even recovery, of future patients.
